We are especially eager to hear from:

  • Farmers and agricultural advisors
  • Tribal Nations
  • Emergency managers and public health officials
  • Local government and state agency staff
  • Natural resource and conservation professionals
  • Anyone interested in learning about or sharing their experiences with extreme weather

The Wisconsin State Climatology Office is collaborating with the Rural Partnerships Institute and Wisconet to organize meetings in rural Wisconsin communities to better understand weather and climate information needs and learn the local impacts of extreme weather events.

Listening sessions will be held where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share perspectives and experiences with extreme weather.

These sessions aim to identify the most pressing weather and climate-related questions facing local stakeholders, with a particular focus on extreme weather impacts such as flooding, drought, extreme heat, and cold.

We hope to use this information to develop data, tools, and resources to help communities better understand local weather and climate, as well as improve extreme weather preparedness.

Attendees will also hear presentations about the weather and climate services provided by the Wisconsin State Climatology Office and learn about Wisconet — a growing network of weather and soil monitoring stations across Wisconsin.

Meetings will be held in person at designated locations in the Northwoods, Central Sands, and Driftless regions of Wisconsin.

We ask that you complete the free registration for the event that you plan on attending to help us prepare for the group size.

Questions can be directed to Jackson Parr, Climate Hazards Planning Educator, at jgparr@wisc.edu.
