We are especially eager to hear from:

- Tribal Nations
- Emergency managers and public health officials
- Local government and state agency staff
- Natural resource and conservation professionals
- Anyone interested in learning about or sharing their experiences with extreme weather
The Wisconsin State Climatology Office is collaborating with the Rural Partnerships Institute and Wisconet to organize meetings in rural Wisconsin communities to better understand weather and climate information needs and learn the local impacts of extreme weather events.
These sessions aim to identify the most pressing weather and climate-related questions facing local stakeholders, with a particular focus on impacts from extreme weather events such as flooding, drought, and extreme winter storms. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share perspectives and experiences with extreme weather.
We hope to use this information to develop data, tools, and resources to help communities better understand local weather and climate, as well as improve extreme weather preparedness.
Attendees will hear presentations from:
- Wisconsin State Climatology Office – climate data and educational resources available to rural Wisconsin residents.
- Wisconet – an overview of this growing network of weather and soil monitoring stations across Wisconsin.
- Local expert – the impacts, action taken, and lessons learned from recent extreme weather.
Meetings will be held in person at designated locations in Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast Wisconsin. There will be a virtual option offered in the spring for those who cannot attend an in-person event.
We ask that you complete the free registration for the event that you plan on attending to help us prepare for the group size.
The University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension provides equal opportunities in employment and programming in compliance with state and federal law. This program will be presented in English with interpretation into Spanish, Hmong, ASL or other languages available if requested.
