View annual heating degree day units from 1895 to the present day for Wisconsin’s nine climate divisions. These charts also show the five-year running average and average heating degree day units from 1901 to 2000.
The data used in these plots are from NOAA’s monthly U.S. climate divisional database (NClimDiv). They use 65 degrees Fahrenheit for the base. When the daily average temperature is below 65, the number of heating degree days is the difference between 65 and the daily average temperature. Colder average temperatures result in higher heating degree days. Heating degree days are commonly used to track energy usage.
