Are Madison’s Lakes Frozen? (2025-2026 Edition)

The Wisconsin State Climatology Office keeps comprehensive records of the freeze and thaw dates for three Madison lakes: Mendota, Monona, and Wingra.

Madison Lake Ice Status (2025-2026 Season)

  • Lake Mendota: Open
  • Lake Monona: Frozen as of December 12
  • Lake Wingra: Frozen as of December 1
